The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, also known as the Western Pure Land or the Land of Peace and Joy, is the Buddha land of Amitabha Buddha (Buddha of Infinite Life). Its core characteristics are the absence of all suffering and the enjoyment of all pleasures, forming a striking contrast with our “enduring” world (the saha world).  To the west of our world, it is ten trillion Buddha lands away (The Amitabha Sutra).  Buddha Lord: The teaching master Amitabha Buddha (Infinite Light, Infinite Life), who continually expounds the Dharma; his attendants on the left and right are Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, collectively known as the “Three Sages of the West.”  Land and environment: adorned with the seven treasures, perfect and flawless Ground: The earth is made of gold, flat, soft, bright, and clean, with no mountains, rivers, ravines, thorns, soil, or rocks. Seven-treasure pools and water of eight virtues: Seven-treasure pools are found everywhere on the ground (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, mother-of-pearl, red pearls, and agate). The water in the pools has eight virtues: sweet, cool, soft, light, clear, fragrant, drinkable; and after drinking, it can dispel afflictions and nourish the body and delight the mind. The bottoms of the pools are paved with golden sand, the steps and paths are made of the seven treasures, and the lotuses in the pools are as large as chariot wheels, in blue, yellow, red, and white, each radiating light. Buildings: Seven-treasure pavilions, palaces, and lecture halls float in the air, varying in size according to one’s wishes, luminous and transparent, surpassing the heavens countless times. Treasure trees and celestial music: Seven rows of trees, seven rows of railings, and seven rows of nets are all formed from the four treasures. When the wind blows through the treasure trees and nets, subtle and wondrous sounds of the Dharma arise, like hundreds of thousands of musical performances happening all at once; those who hear them naturally generate thoughts of the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Climate and heavenly rain: There is no cold or heat, no wind or rain, only constant mild comfort; during the six periods of day and night, heavenly flowers of mandārava rain down in colorful profusion, filling the air with fragrance.
